How to Make Personal Schedules

Updated: Feb 25, 2023

I think in general, most people either have a fixed schedule from school/work, want to have a schedule of daily life, or balance their lives together. So, my personal experiences of making set schedules all started when I started college.

When I first started college, I had just school, no work, no healthy lifestyle, and such. So, during this time it was “simple” for me just to do assignments and study nonstop. Until my spring semester came when I started work again this was when I faced time management and finding a schedule that was “balanced” for me. It was when I started to focus on pre-planning a schedule for my daily life.

As of right now, I am currently balancing being a full-time student, part-time worker, social time, and a recently added aspect of gym life. Now some of you may question how I am balancing so many things at once well that is what I am going to talk about today.

So, this is here is my guideline to help determine my schedules because my school schedules are changing I have to make adjustments as I go

  1. Make a list of all things that you are doing, happening, or wanting to start in your life

  2. Find out which aspects have a set time frame and pick out desired times you want for certain aspects

  3. Compare the times, organize from most important to least, and adjust the times to not overlap

  4. One of my major things is having days off so pick one to two days off from everything

  5. Then grab something to write on and make a weekly outline from Monday through Sunday and put everything down

To detail and gives examples of each step

  1. When making this list include things that you are currently doing or want to start doing

    1. School, work, gym, house cleaning

    2. Learning new things, inputting a new lifestyle into your life

  2. As you may already know some things have a fixed time which either you can control or not. Work is always interchangeable with a fixed time like 9-5 or 11-7 which is usually different each week. For school, classes are always at a set time, in different classroom formats, and never the same each semester. Although school and work may have set time frames choose which times would work best for you let’s say that you're more of a morning person you may work morning shifts or do classes in the morning and vice versa.

  3. Once you picked out your desired times compare them with everything and make changes to one thing at a time. When changing I say choose which aspect you want to be the most important for me it’s school so once I established a time, I then start imputing my times around my school schedule.

  4. As you make your schedule always try to have at least one or two off days just for yourself and to simply have free time. I know that some people are unable to have off days but if you’re a student or someone who can have one day completely off take advantage of it. When I first started working, I was doing school during the week and working weekends by me doing that I felt that I didn’t have any time and social cause nonstop I was busy every day, so I felt that I was missing out on a lot of things.

  5. After figuring out and understanding your times grab a piece of paper and make a simple weekly outline. With this chart write down all your times to see how a typical week would be for you and once again adjust and change anything.

Although I may have given this step process, I want you guys to use more of a guideline because I don’t know everyone’s lives and each of you is unique. However, I do hope that with this guideline you guys would be able to start somewhere, and over time understand yourself and romanticizes your life.
